Meshuggah, whose name is taken from the Hebrew and Yiddish word for “crazy”, is a five-piece band from Umeå, Sweden, founded in 1987. The band's style is most easily described as extreme/technical metal with some jazz influence. They use extended polymetric passages, polyrhythmic drum patterns, angular, dissonant guitar riffs, and harsh vocals. Their lineup has always been consistent, apart from bass which has been handled by many people since the band’s inception. Their current lineup consists of Jens Kidman (vocals), Fredrik Thordendal (lead/rhythm guitar + backup vocals), Mårten Hagström (rhythm guitar + backup vocals), Dick Lövgren (bass) and Tomas Haake (drums).
Meshuggah is widely acknowledged as an influence on many mod...
Entombed is a death metal band from Stockholm, Sweden which formed in 1987 under the name of Nihilist. In 1989 they changed their name to Entombed. Though Entombed began their career as an early pioneer of Scandinavian death metal, by the early 1990s their sound had broadened to include hard rock and other influences. This new style would eventually be described as Death 'n' Roll, of which Entombed remains arguably the best-known example.
Entombed's debut album was Left Hand Path, a cult favorite that established the band as a popular death metal band. The follow-up, Clandestine, was just as popular. These first two albums were unique in that they featured what was sometimes referred to as an "chain saw" guitar sound. It was c...
There are multiple artists with this name:
1) Witchcraft are a doom metal band from Sweden. Strongly inspired by the early '70s rock, they play with a heavy and slightly psychedelic rock style typical of other similar stoner doom metal bands. Their music is commonly compared to the likes of Black Sabbath, Pentagram and Jethro Tull. They have released four well-received full length albums to date.
2) Witchcraft were a USA duo whose music was of a highly imaginative and original style that could be considered avant-garde. John Buehler - vocals, keyboards, drum machines, percussion, vocoder & design. Andrew Arbetter - guitar. Although Witchcraft have disbanded since, these two albums remain perennial favorites and are ...
COLDWORKER was a Swedish death/grind band. The band came to existence about a year after Nasum tragically called it the quits. Drummer Anders Jakobson started looking for members for a new grinding band. After posting in his blog at Nasum.com, Anders Bertilsson (of Ruin) - vague acquaintance to Jakobson - offered to play the guitar in the band. At the same time bass player Oskar Pålsson (of Relentless) was looking for a session drummer for a possible solo demo. He asked Jakobson who informed him about the new grinding band plans and the two ideas were quickly merged into one. The three members started to send riffs back and forth building up a small library of ideas.
The first rehearsal took place a few months later. The band...
The rise of torture:
The band was formed in Sweden, 2007 by Lord K Philipson (The Project Hate MCMXCIX) and Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory) after they terminated their former band God Among Insects. To complete the line up they asked Jörgen Sandström (ex-Grave vocalist/bassist) to join the band. Immediately Torture Division started to write songs, fired up a website and did what they could to make their cause known.
A few rules were set up from the start:
1. The band was to be a three piece. An army of three.
2. At least 3 demos should be released before they even considered a record deal. The reason for that is that they wanted some time for the band to develop instead of writing a half-assed alb...
