There are at least four artists known as Actress.
1) Actress is the artist alias of Wolverhampton’s Darren Cunningham. If you’re looking for clues to his music, you’re better off starting with "Hazyville", the title of his debut album. The record presents a landscape as blurry as its title, with house and hiphop beats dissolving into a spray of bits and tape hiss. When "Hazyville" came out in 2008, it sounded unlike anything else out there — you could hear echoes of the familiar (Moodymann, Jan Jelinek, ‘80s R&B, wonky), but it was spun into an uncanny kind of dreamstate.
Cunningham also runs Werk Discs; the label had something of a hit in 2008 with Zomby’s "Where Were U in '92?", and its roster runs from the street...
Laurel Halo is a producer and electronic musician from Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Influenced by her Midwest roots, the music speaks to new club ecologies, explored via abstracted rhythms, chaotic ambience and moody jazz elements. As Halo once told to The Wire Magazine, "Techno is a meditative force that can process darkness and remove problems...in their place, the ideal of a non-threatening, transcended, sexually charged headspace emerges". Physical process and temporal drift are recurring motifs in Halo's discography. She has released three full-length albums on the London-based electronic label Hyperdub Records.

Pleq is the solo project of Bartosz Dziadosz,an experimental musician who combines elements of drone, down tempo, glitch and modern classical. He creates his work by fusing together independently synthesized sounds, often incorporates violin, the unexpectedly melancholic sound of a piano, sometimes female vocals. Somewhere, something falls, something enters, rings ... there's a hissing and pop, like a short circuit on high voltage lines.
Carried by strong focus, Pleq's style is remarkably consistent, and may be described as: Glitch & Melancholy. Read more on Last.fm . User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
1. 25 year old multi instrumentalist James Kelly is until now best known as the sole permanent member and writer behind black metal outfit Altar Of Plagues, who has released three critically acclaimed albums on the labels Profound Lore and Candlelight. Using found sounds, home made instruments and field recordings as a base, Altar Of Plagues creates music "Full of radical tangents and alien-to-black metal elements, more focused on frailty and struggle than majesty and grandeur" (Pitchfork). These ideas transfer to James' solo recordings as WIFE, which also reveal his long-standing interest in electronic music. The EP "Stoic" was released on Left Bank in 2012. His debut album "What's Between", co-produced by Roly Porter and Bobby Krlic (T...
Helena Hauff is a DJ and producer from Hamburg, Germany, where she runs a club night called Birds and Other Instruments at the Golden Pudel Club.
Helena’s sound as a DJ can’t be nailed down as she cuts between genres with ease. Dirty Acid, Chicago, Electro and Wave mixed in an obsessive way, as you can hear on Blackest Ever Black’s sub-label Krokodilo Tapes, where she released a limited edition mixtape, "Obscure Object".
As a producer, this obsessive nature comes across in the intensity of her music. This can be seen in her releases that have been on Actress’s Werkdiscs imprint, and Bunker offshoot, Panzerkreuz.
In addition, she is half of Black Sites along with F#X, who have also seen a release on Panzer...
One of Andreas Tilliander's many monikers, Mokira showcases the producer's ambient work, which juxtaposes steady rhythms with turbid glitch and hazy static. Tilliander's first album as Mokira, Cliphop (2000), won him much acclaim as well as a recording contract with Mille Plateaux, for whom he recorded his follow-up, Plee (2002). In addition, other labels such as Klanggalerie and Fat Cat have released one-off Mokira recordings.
