Thyrfing is a viking metal band from Sweden. The band is named after the royal sword Tyrfing from Norse mythology.
Thyrfing was formed in 1995 by Patrik Lindgren (guitar), Jocke Kristensson (drums), Peter Löf (keyboard) and Kimmy Sjölund (bass guitar). From the beginning, the band was meant to be a side project, as Patrik and Jocke put their main focus into their other band, Pantheon (not to be confused with the American National Socialist black metal band of the same name). Northern mythology and the Viking age was an interest of all the members, so the lyrics and the concept was focused upon this subject. This epic metal band was formed in the early 90's by the sole two members still making up Ereb Altor. Growing up having Bathory's epic era in our hearts it was inevitable that the music we created somehow was going to be influenced by our house gods. Having Bathory's music as a foundation we created our own branch of this so called "epic viking metal" genre. Lyric-wise the topics differed slightly.
After a break lasting over a decade due to being busy with other bands we decided to breathe life into this sleeping beauty. A recording was done late 2003 with some of the over ten years old songs (slightly modified).

There are at least four bands called "Skogen".
1) Skogen is an atmospheric black metal band from the deep woods of southern Sweden. The band was brought to life in 2009, they have since released four full-length albums. Skogen's sound can be compared to bands along the lines of Drudkh, Winterfylleth, Wodensthrone and Fen.
