Dark Tranquillity were formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1989 by Mikael Stanne and Niklas Sundin as Septic Broiler before changing their name in 1991. They are considered to be one of the earliest pioneers of the Gothenburg melodic death metal style.
They have kept a mostly consistent line-up. Anders Jivarp has played drums since joining the band shortly after its formation, with Anders Fridén and Martin Henriksson. Rhythm guitarist Mikael Stanne switched to vocals after Anders Fridén's departure. When his predecessor Fredrik Johansson left in 1998, bassist Martin Henriksson took up guitar duties and Michael Nicklasson came in on bass shortly before the recording of Haven. Amorphis is a Finnish progressive/melodic metal band, and formerly death/doom band started by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari and Esa Holopainen in Helsinki, Finland in 1990. The band has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, and are classified as one of the ''big four'' of thrash metal bands alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Anthrax were formed in 1981 by guitarists Scott Ian and bassist Danny Lilker. They found the band's name in a biology textbook and claimed it because it sounded sufficiently evil to them. Nowadays Anthrax consists of these members: Joey Belladonna on lead vocals, Charlie Benante on drums, guitarists Scott Ian and Jo...
Kreator is a thrash metal band from Essen, Germany. They originally started under the name Metal Militia, later Tyrant and Tormentor, finally Kreator. Starting their career in 1982, they played Thrash Metal with Venom influences. Their style of music is similar to their compatriots Destruction and Sodom, the other two big Teutonic Thrash Metal bands from Germany. All three of these bands are often credited with helping create Death Metal.
Kreator's work has been consistently in the vein of pure thrash, with the exception of four albums (Renewal, Cause for Conflict, Outcast and Endorama) during the 1990s when they undertook serious experimentation. Incorporating Industrial, Gothic and Avant-Garde elements into their sound, the ...
