Saxon is a British heavy metal band, formed in Barnsley, England in 1976.
As pioneers of, and at the forefront of the then New Wave of British Heavy Metal the band enjoyed a period of prominence in the UK (including popular chart success) and Europe in the early 1980s, and later the USA and Japan.
Saxon started in South Yorkshire, England as SOB during 1976 with founder members Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson. This band joined forces with another local band, Coast, featuring Biff Byford on vocals and Paul Quinn on guitar. Doro Pesch (real name: Dorothea Pesch, born 3 June 1964, Düsseldorf) is a female vocalist, formerly of the German heavy metal band Warlock and one of the few female singers of the 1980s heavy metal scene.
After Warlock underwent many personnel changes, Pesch was the only remaining original member of the band. After changing her record label, she released in 1989 the fifth album as Doro, as the former label owned the trademark on the Warlock name.

In early 2002, Swedish guitarist Joachim Nordlund, drummer Johan Lindstedt and singer Nils Patrik Johansson teamed up and decided to write some metal songs in the spirit of the old heroes Rainbow, Dio, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
