The Skull Defekts

The Skull Defekts is a two-headed beast from Sweden. One for hypnotic rock and one for experimental electronics. The band has been compared to Can, Wolf Eyes, Wire, Shellac and beyond. Formed by Henrik Rylander and Joachim Nordwall in early 2005 when Nordwall's band Kid Commando decided to end their eight-year career as knights of the sweatiest avant rock existing. Rylander had been experimenting with feedback for a few years after the death of the infamous Swedish garage rock outfit Union Carbide Productions where he was the pulse, rhythm and founding memeber. Ikue Mori (JP)

Ikue Mori moved from her native city of Tokyo to New York in 1977. She started playing drums and soon joined the seminal NO WAVE band DNA, with fellow noise pioneers Arto Lindsay and Tim Wright. DNA enjoyed legendary cult status, while creating a new brand of radical rhythms and dissonant sounds; forever altering the face of rock music.

In the mid 80’s Ikue started in employ drum machines in the unlikely context of improvised music. While limited to the standard technology provided by the drum machine, she has never the less forged her own highly sensitive signature style.

Aaron Dilloway (US)

Aaron Dilloway is an experimental musician. He has been releasing and recording music since the age of 16. He is a former guitarist and tape manipulator for the noise rock band Wolf Eyes, which he left in 2005 to live most of that year in Kathmandu, Nepal. While his wife did her graduate work there, he roamed the streets recording every sound he could, many of which are used in his recent recordings and performances. Currently he runs the noise record label, record store and mailorder Hanson Records, which he began in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1994, but has been based in Oberlin, Ohio since February 2008. Okkyung Lee (US)

A native of Korea, Okkyung Lee has been developing her own voice in a contemporary cello performance, improvisation and composition. Using her solid classical training as a springboard, she incorporates jazz, sounds, korean traditional music, and noise with extended techniques to create her unique blend of music.

Since 2000, she has performed and recorded with numerous artists such as Laurie Anderson, Carla Bozulich, John Butcher, Nels Cline, Chris Corsano, Axel Dörner, Carlos Giffoni, Vijay Iyer, Urs Leimgruber, Thurston Moore, Ikue Mori, Lawrence D.
