Zola Jesus is the stage name of Russian-American singer-songwriter Nika Roza Danilova (born 11 April 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Merrill, Wisconsin, USA). Her music style combines electronic, industrial, classical, goth, and experimental rock influences.
Nika Roza Danilova was raised in Merrill, Wisconsin, on over 100 acres of forest. From Sandviken in the north of Sweden comes lo-fi romantics YAST (Before the name stood for Youth And Student Travel). A bit naive, very loving and with dreamy melodies, Carl, Tobias and Marcus get help from Markus and Niklas, drummer and bass player from post punk act Aerial. Since 2004 they are based in Malmö, near Möllan. YAST will always be influenced by Yo La Tengo,Neil Young and Pavement but find inspiration in a variety of music and things.
